$40 per annum- based on the Financial Year
$2 per day of attendance
$5 for barbeque on Thursdays (optional)
Conditions of Participation
To provide a safe, supportive and friendly environment for men of all ages to gather, volunteer, work and seek fellowship with other like-minded men.
To do this:
1. We will maintain an open door policy and will not reject any person on the basis of race, disability, religion or age, with the proviso that if, for physical safety reasons, a participant needs the assistance of a carer, we are unable to provide a full time carer, this must be provided however in order for those person to participate safely.
2. We will provide a safe physical environment.
3. We will provide a safe and supportive social environment.
4. We will provide referrals to other services when appropriate or requested.
5. We will respect the rights and decisions of participants.
6. We will respect the confidentiality of participants.
7. Due to safety considerations, appropriate safety gear (PPE) must be worn when using machines.
8. Participants must be checked as competent to use equipment by an appropriate workplace assessor.
9. Closed shoes must be worn in the workshop at all times.
10. We will not tolerate abuse, violence or infringements of the rights of other participants. Persons indulging in this type of behavior will be asked to leave the premises.
11. Participants are expected to act in a courteous manner towards other users of the facility, and this includes being considerate of other persons need for space, tools and equipment.
12. In the interests of safety, the premises must be kept in a tidy condition. It is the responsibility of all users to clean up after themselves. If this is not done, the organization takes no responsibility for materials or tools left lying about.
13. Due to space constraints there may be a limit of one private job, per person at any one time.
14. Due to the nature of the funding, the aims of the project and the wishes of the majority of the participants, women will not be accepted as regular participants.
15. Participants working on private jobs will be asked to contribute towards the cost of occupancy, materials and consumables used.
16. While the Men’s Shed is operated on very democratic lines, for safety and management reasons there is a person in charge. This will usually be the chairman. His decisions must be respected. In the event of conflict, there is a process of appeal which is documented in “The Men’s Shed Procedure Manual”.
17. All projects to be undertaken by “The Men’s Shed” need to be signed off by the shed’s administration office. This is to ensure sufficient resources are available, and the OH&S and design criteria are met
